The United Kingdom – a dream destination for any Filipino. May it be for travel or for employment, every Filipino wishes to visit the country and enjoy the beautiful and historical places in the UK. Aside from these, many students are enticed into finding good universities where they can enrol and be with other foreign students. Applying exchange student programs have been a desire for these students. The pride of being in a prestigious academy or university in the UK and walking along hallways where bright minds have also strutted are some experiences these students want to have. However, it is important for any student to know that studying in the UK requires a student visa. Here is some information on student visa for UK.

The TIER 4 Student Visa or the General Student Visa is granted to any individual who are staying in the UK for six months or more. Applicants can also choose Long Term Visitor Visa up t 11 months. Applying for this visa, an applicant must be able to have an English level of Intermediate (European Framework – B1). To do this, the applicant must provide a proof of their English level through an English proficiency examination. The IELTS or the International English Language Testing System exam is one test accepted in the UK. It is best to provide a valid IELTS certification because the UK Border Agency will be checking the student’s skills upon their arrival at the airport.

The applicant needs to take either the Academic or the General Training Module. He or she has to get an overall band score of 4.0 in a foundation course or 5.5 in a bachelors or graduate program with no score below 4.0 or 5.5 respectively. However, most universities in the UK require a score between 5.5 and 7.0 bands for admission. With this, it is best to aim a 7.0 to be admitted in the academic institution you are applying for.

Aside from the IELTS certificate, the applicant has to provide the visa letter or Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) from an approved academic institution registered in the United Kingdom Border Agency (UKBA). Additionally, applicants have to present proof of funds that will illustrate the applicant’s ability to cover all the expenses and fees during his stay.

For Filipino applicants, reviewing with IELTS review centers to prepare for the exam is needed. Remember that this certification is very needed; hence, doing good at the exam is a must.
