The Impact of the Recent US Government Budget Cuts on Filipinos

As Filipinos, will there be a huge impact on our country once the US economy experiences financial crisis?
It has been known to many that the Philippines have been one of the many countries who are being aided by the United States of America. Hence, any financial crisis experienced by the US has somehow an impact in the Philippines and to Filipinos who are living in the US as well.

With the recent news of the US federal budget being cut, some have seen this rather on a positive side. It has been reported that due to budget cut, illegal immigrants who have been detained have been released in jail. This has happened as the budget for maintaining these detention facilities has been reduced; hence, the solution was to release the illegal immigrants. However, residents have been apprehensive with this decision arising debates. Whilst some see this as good news for their loved ones have been freed.

On the downside, Filipinos living in the United States are greatly affected with this financial crisis. First of all, there will be job losses. Companies downsize eliminating those workers that are redundant and somehow irreplaceable in the company. Some may have still their jobs but some businesses have reduced the number of hours so that employers can cut also on the expenses not only on the salaries but also with the fees on utilities and maintenance. Another move business owners make is making their employees take furloughs. By doing this, they do not have to pay for the number of hours worked by their hires and can also result for reduced usage of utilities in the offices.

For Filipinos who are planning to migrate or find job in the US, the budget cut can also pose a dilemma. Processing of applications can be delayed. Moreover, the number of opportunities could be put on halt as businesses are still on their strategies to keep their business going. Even thought the demand is still there, acquiring it can be pretty difficult as some employers might consider hiring locals than importing manpower from other countries.

Hence, though this could possibly happen, Filipinos still continue to pursue their applications as the rise on IELTS or International English Language Test System exam test takers is still happening. Filipinos still take this English competency examination to fulfill the requirements of the companies overseas.

Indeed, the financial situation in the US can cause a great impact on the Filipinos – whether those living there or those planning to work there. Hence, Filipinos still push through their plans on finding better employment and opportunities abroad.

IELTS and Foreign Doctors in the UK

Medical professionals are one profession that has a high number of demands overseas. Filipino medical professionals are seriously taking into consideration the opportunity of practicing their professions outside the country. It is not a secret to anyone that working abroad has a better pay and much clearer career advancement. Hence, more and more medical professionals, specifically doctors, have been planning to find an opportunity abroad – in the United Kingdom.

Though the idea of working abroad for these doctors is very promising, the competition and the requirements are very strict that doctors should meet. If you are a doctor wishing to practice your profession in the UK, the first thing that they should undergo is training under GMC or the General Medical Council. It applies to all levels of registration, whether provisional, full or on the specialist or general practitioner (GP) register. The conditions that allow the GMC to grant full registration are governed by law under The Medical Art 1983. Doctors should have primary medical qualification and is expected to have completed (overseas) appropriate experience or internship of at least 12 months equivalent to Foundation Year 1.

The first thing doctors need to do is to check with the GMC whether their primary medical qualification make them eligible to apply for registration. Then, doctors will have to provide objective evidence that they have the knowledge and skills needed for working as a doctor in the UK.

Aside from the work experience and educational background requirements in UK, an English language proficiency examination is also required. Doctors need to show their expertise in the English language by taking the IELTS test or the International English Language Testing System exam.

The IELTS examination can be taken here in the Philippines. It is a paper-based test consisting of four sections – speaking, listening, reading, and writing – that help gauge the doctor’s fluency in using the language.

Doctors need to take the Academic module of the IELTS. Candidates must obtain an overall score of 7.0 with minimum scores of 7.0 in the speaking, listening and writing. The IELTS certification is valid for two years. If the candidate fails to reach the score requirement, he or she can take the IELTS exam again until he or she is able to get the score requirement in one sitting.

Doctors should not be complacent in taking the IELTS examination. The best thing to do here is to acquire training and coaching from IELTS review centers in the Philippines. It is the most important part in preparing for the real IELTS examination.

There are different kinds of visa that depends on the applicant’s age, the length of the course, and the academic institution where the person will study.  Here is some information that will guide students on their visa applications.

•    Visa Types

Currently, there are two kinds of UK visa offered to non-European residents: Student Visitor Visa (SVV) and Tier 4 Student Visa. An SVV is for short academic courses and for most English courses. The UK PBS (points based system) is the one responsible for issuing these visas.

•    Obtaining Tier 4 Visas

If a student is applying for a Tier 4 Visa, he or she should present a CAS or Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies from the academic institution he or she is enrolling. CAS can only be acquired if a deposit has been done in the institution. Moreover, a student should prove that he or she have the funds to pay for his or her studies. Butchery in Australia - Tips on How Filipino Can Improve Their Chances in Working in Australia as Butchers

Australia has opened different job opportunities to non-Australian residents. With these job openings, Filipinos are given the chance to find a job that will match their qualifications and expertise in their fields. Aside from these jobs in international companies where people do office work, skilled workers like butchers are in high demand in Australia. A huge number of butchers are currently being employed for meat processing plants and different restaurants in Australia.

It has been said that most locals and foreign nationals do not like working in slaughterhouses or as meat cutters; hence, the job is offered to other nationalities, luckily for Filipinos, who are known for their hardworking personality and reliability when it comes to working. For Filipino butchers who wanted to find the best opportunity and success in finding a butchery job in Australia, these tips are for you.

1. Attend trainings and seminars for butchery

In the Philippines, there are different trainings offered by the private sector or by Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA). In most cases, this training lasts for six weeks. The training is designed to teach individuals the right knowledge and skills to be acquired. Presenting certificates from these seminars and training is an advantage to these butchers targeting work in Australia.

Some specific skills that are needed are knowledge of Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP), knowledge and experience with lamb, beef, pork, and small goods like ham and bacon, and knowledge and ability to produce and prepare “value add products” like marinades, sausages and hamburgers. Familiarity on these and the equipment used in butchery will be the best asset one can have.

2. English Assessment Test

It is expected for butchers to speak English fluently as they will be working with other foreign nationals. Hence, it is required to take an English proficiency examination like the IELTS. Through the IELTs or the International English Language Testing System examination, employers are given assurance that workers can work productively and effectively in an English speaking environment. There will be no problems with communication and understanding others as well. The reason why butchers search for an effective IELTS review center is for them to undergo English training that will provide them the opportunity to grab the job opportunity in Australia. With the course programs IELTS review centers have created, butchers are expected to excel not only in their skills in butchery but also in English. You can refer to this post on how to select the best IELTS review center for you.

These two tips mentioned above are the most important things to consider in planning to find employment in butchery in Australia. For butchers to know more on these requirements for Australia, visit the nearest IELTS review center and be informed.
