What is the Difference between H1B and EB2 Visas?

The United States of America is one country where visa is needed to be able for foreigners to work, study, or migrate in their land. There are a lot of visa classifications; hence, Filipinos need to understand and be informed about these visas. Why do Filipinos want to be in the USA?

First and foremost, Filipinos always have this American dream. This is greatly influenced on what they see on movies or on TV. America is pictured out as a country where dreams become reality. It is always alive and exciting. Secondly, Filipinos consider the US as a country where they can see improvement or progress in their careers. Finally, the US is a good place to live and settle as they get older.

Filipinos are primarily concerned in getting two different kinds of visa – the H1B and EB2 visas. What exactly are these visas for?

H1B Visa

US companies are allowed to employ foreign workers in specialized fields that require theoretical or technical expertise such as I architecture, engineering, science and medicine through the H1B visa. This is a non-immigrant visa where visa holders can work for up to six years in the US. This visa lets anyone to stay for up to three years in the US with a possible extension to a maximum of six years. In addition, H1B visa holders have the opportunity to bring their spouse and children under the age of 21 years old.

EB2 Visa

There are three categories under this visa: (1) EB2(A) for foreign nationals with an advanced degrees’ (masters or higher) and with a job offer from a US company; (2) EB2(B) for foreign nationals with ‘exceptional ability’ in sciences, business arts and with a job offer from a US company; and (3) EB2(C) for foreign national with exceptional ability or an advanced degree who can show that their knowledge with be an advantage to the US national interest.

Basically, applicants cannot apply for H1B visa; it is the employers who will apply for the said visa to be able to outsource people from other countries. On the other hand, applicants of EB2 visa have to apply for the said visa and submit all the necessary documents to provide proof of their eligibility. Applicants must provide all necessary academic certificates and recognitions related to their field of study for the EB2 visa.

Being informed on the different kinds of US visas along with their requirements is a good step in preparation for the American dream. Applicants have to get hold of the necessary documents and payments needed for the processing of the visa.

What are the Uses of the IELTS Exam?

The International English Language Testing System examination has received a lot of test takers since different opportunities opened in countries like Australia, New Zealand, Canada, the United Kingdom and even some parts of the United States of America. Moreover, these opportunities are very promising that more and more Filipinos want to grab this chance of being able to go overseas. We all know that the IELTS examination is an English proficiency examination; however, what exactly are the uses of the IELTS exam?

· The IELTS examination is a measure of one’s ability to use and understand the English language. Many non-native English speakers want to know their level of fluency; hence, they choose to take the examination. Being able to know your English fluency is an advantage and will bring a lot of benefits to you – both professionally and personally.

· The IELTS test is needed for students who are applying for a degree or a post-graduate course overseas. Schools need IELTS to ensure one’s success in coping with their academic performance in school. It will be very difficult for someone to study in an English speaking country if he or she has a hard time understanding the English language.

· Working professionals who want to work overseas need the IELTS as a requirement. Companies have made this a requirement to check if a certain individual can work efficiently in an English-speaking work environment. He or she should be able to work well with colleagues as well through communication in the English language.

· For Filipino residents to change their visa status to permanent residents in a specific country, the IELTS is also needed for their application.

· For immigration, people who have taken the IELTS can use this as a proof of their language test. English-speaking countries require it to evaluate the individual’s eligibility to stay and live permanently in their country.

· IELTS exam is also used in professional registration for some organizations overseas.

· In some countries, the IELTS is used to evaluate literacy of students.

· For scholarship grants overseas, an IELTS score is also a needed requirement.

· IELTS is also used for teacher education courses in some countries.

· Some universities also use the IELTS in investigating language proficiency of international students.

People may have different purposes in taking the IELTS but its use can be any of the one mentioned above. For Filipinos, the most common use of the IELTS is for work, study, and immigration. Taking the IELTS is a huge challenge; a rigid training for the test should be practiced. Take time to organize and manage time as a start in preparing for the IELTS examination.

What Type of Medical Tests is Required During Visa Processing?

To experience culture and be in famous tourist spots – these are two most popular reasons why a person wants to travel. Travelling is one hobby that can be pretty costly but very fun and interesting. A lot of people want to travel and explore the world. Aside from the joys of travelling, finding work opportunities, studying and even migrating are reasons for Filipinos to explore countries overseas.

Filipinos are out there seeking for a lot of opportunities abroad. Companies overseas have better remuneration packages and there is also a big possibility where they can bring their families to the country of their choice as well. There are a lot of requirements to be submitted in applying for a visa. Some are financial statements, letter of applications, and even an English proficiency test result such as the IELTS or the International English Language Testing System examination. Plus, do not forget the fees one has to pay to lodge these applications. Furthermore, a medical certificate is also a major need for the applicants. They have to be in strong body and mind before a visa is granted. What types of medical tests are needed then?

Australia ----------------------

Medical examination, such as chest x-ray, is needed. This will be used to evaluate the applicant’s standard of health. Aside from that, visa applicants have to be immunised against infectious diseases before entering Australia. These immunisations should be done before departure from their home country. Children should be immunised against hepatitis B, diphtheria, pneumococcal and meningococcal infections to name some. Parents are required to bring records of their child’s immunisation when travelling to Australia.

For permanent and temporary visa applicants: medical history, physical examination, urinalysis and chest x-ray.

The United Kingdom ----------------------

Only medical examinations done by an Embassy approved physician is authorized in processing. Other physician’s medical examination will not be honoured. Vaccinations are also needed. In addition, applicants must undergo health screening for tuberculosis especially if the applicant comes from high-incident countries of TB, complete blood count, and syphilis test.

New Zealand
----------------------

Applicants for New Zealand need the following medical examinations: physical examination, urinalysis, CXR (chest x-ray), HIV, Syphilis, CBC (complete blood count), hepatitis B antigen, serum creatinine, and glycosylated haemoglobin.

Canada ----------------------

Applicants are required to undergo physical examination, urinalysis, CXR, HIV, and Syphilis screening.

The United States of America  ----------------------

The physical examination is required for all applicants regardless of age. Tuberculin Skin test is needed for applicants from ages 2 to 14. A chest x-ray is required to adult applicants age 15 and up or for those younger children who have been exposed to TB cases or have history of TB disease. Finally, a syphilis test for those 15 and up.

These examinations have to be followed for they are a requirement. Failing to pass the medical exam may halt the processing of the visa; hence, it is best to stay healthy for your medical examination.

How Does the State Sponsorship in Australia Works?

Want to earn more money? Work overseas! This is a sad fact, yet we cannot deny the better benefits given by countries overseas especially about salaries. Most Filipinos who work abroad have left the country due to better salary packages and career development in companies and institutions overseas. Amongst the many countries overseas, English speaking countries are the target of the Filipinos. The reason behind this is that it will not be difficult to communicate in such countries as Filipinos can both use and understand the English language well. One country that has been gaining more and more Filipinos is Australia.

There are a lot of visa types that Filipinos can apply for. All they have to understand is that they have to be eligible in the visa type that they want. Among the many visa types, how does the state sponsorship in Australia works? What is the state sponsorship visa?

A state sponsorship can be applied by any individual as long they have been nominated by a state or territory in the government of Australia. There are criteria for an individual to be eligible. For example, if a candidate applies for state sponsorship in Western Australia, here is what applicants should do.

· Submit an eligible Expression of Interest (EOI) in the Department of Immigration and Border Protection (DIBP) SkillSelect database.

For the EOI to be eligibile, one must meet the following:

- A score of at least 60 DIBP points test.

- Evidence of a skills assessment suitable for permanent migration in the nominated occupation

- Have an available nominated occupation in the list of the territories

- Competent English. The applicant must score at least a score of 6 or 7 in Western Australia in each band of the IELTS or the International English Language Testing System examination.

- Age not older than 50 years old.

- Work experience of at least three years

Each territory has its own nominated occupations. Once an individual applies for a certain occupation in a particular territory, they will be assessing your eligibility for the said position. As soon as you are eligible, an invitation will be sent detailing that you are eligible to make an application. The state determines your qualifications based on the requirements and your work experiences.

When you are awarded with the said visa, there is a possibility to apply for a permanent resident status after a couple of years living in Australia given you qualify with the criteria for the PR status.

For more information on state sponsorship in Australia, visit http://www.immi.gov.au/Visas/Pages/190.aspx.

Requirements for Bridging Course for Nurses in New Zealand

"My name is Anna and I am currently reviewing the IELTS. I have been told that Filipino nurses in New Zealand are bound to do a bridging program. I am quite lost about this. What is this bridging about?"

The demand for Filipino nurses has been ongoing for years now. Many English speaking countries want Filipino nurses to work for them because of the quality of education and training they have in their home country. However, Filipino nurses cannot immediately practice their nursing profession overseas. Some countries offer a bridging program and one of these is New Zealand.

The need for bridging programs is to ensure that a nurse’s skill will be of the same quality as to those nurses who graduated in New Zealand. This is to ensure that Filipino nurses will be administering work based on New Zealand’s system. Bridging programs such as this will help Filipino nurses learn more about their field and experience how health administration is done in New Zealand.

Before a nurse can enrol in a particular bridging program, he or she has to make sure that all information indicated in the documents must be rue and accurate. If in any case that the information is false or has discrepancies, the application will not be allowed to continue processing.

There are two scopes of practice Filipino nurses can apply for registration

· Registered Nurse scope of practice

These nurses use nursing knowledge and judgement to assess health needs, provide care and advise and support people to manage their health.

Applicants must (1) be currently registered with an overseas regulatory authority, (2) have successfully finished a nursing program that is equivalent to New Zealand nursing schools and New Zealand Qualifications Framework, (3) 2 years post-registration nursing practice with at least 2,500 hours within in the five years immediately preceding the date of application, and (4) have completed a Nursing Council-approved competence assessment.

· Enrolled Nurse scope of practice

These nurses practice under the direction and delegation of a registered nurse or nurse practitioner to deliver care and health education. They contribute to nursing assessments, care planning and implementation and evaluation of care for health consumers and families.

Applicants must (1) be registered with an overseas regulatory authority, (2) have an international qualification that is equivalent to a qualification prescribed by the Nursing Council of New Zealand, (3) pass an assessment of the Nursing Council competencies, and (4) successfully complete a programme approved by the Nursing Council.

Applicants should also be reminded that an English proficiency exam certification is required. They have to take the International English Language Testing System examination (IELTS) and get a score no lower than 7.0 in all four areas – speaking, reading, listening, and writing – in the Academic Module.

What to Consider If You Want to Study Abroad?

Given an opportunity to study overseas, are you willing to take it or let it slip out of your hands?

Tempting as it sounds, studying overseas is what most students want. There are a lot of Filipino students who are working hard to get good grades and to be able to find a good school overseas. As early as high school or even elementary, these young achievers have been searching for good schools in preparation for their tertiary or post-graduate education. It is exciting for these students to experience academic life overseas and at the same time being independent as they are far away from home. However, there are still things to be considered when studying abroad.

Here are some things that must be on the checklist when deciding on where to study overseas:

· Program offered by a school

As a student, you should be able to check the course programs of the college. Is this what you want? Does the program cover the areas you want to study in a particular major? Can you afford this program in this particular school? These are only a few questions that a student should be confident in answering a “yes.” It is best to compare other programs from other universities before signing up to one.

· Language

It is best to study in an English-speaking country or at least a university that uses English as a language for instruction. It will be very difficult for Filipinos to adjust to a new language other than English. Yes, we can learn new languages but it will be much more beneficial to be in an institution where you can easily find a way to communicate and interact in English.

· Weather
Some countries have extreme summer and winter. For Filipinos, summer is not a big issue. Will you be able to endure the cold? Are you physically fit to be exposed in a country with extreme weather? Before deciding, be sure that your body can adjust to these. You would not like your health be compromised while you are far from home.

· Living arrangements
Are you going to live in a dorm or with a host? There are some students who want to live in a dormitory to experience life with other students from other countries. Others prefer with a host family so that somehow they will not be feeling alone and homesick. Decide on which would fit best on your personality.

· Requirements
Each academic institution has its own requirements. Most of them need your academic records, financial records if you can afford to study and live in the country and an English proficiency exam like the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) and Test of English as Foreign Language (TOEFL). Check on these to start gathering your requirements for your application.

Are you now ready to start looking for a school? Be sure to have those items checked and you are good to go to study overseas!

IELTS Training for Student Visas in Canada

Travelling to Canada is perfect. The weather is cool, the scenery is breathtaking and the people are warm and kind. Also, there are a lot of Filipinos who are living in Canada and having the great time in their lives. Aside from travelling, Canada has been one destination of students who are applying for graduate or post-graduate studies. It is every student’s dream to be educated in prestigious universities other than here in the Philippines.

Canada student visa

Filing for a student visa in Canada is easy if you have all the required requirements. These requirements include the following:
  • Proof of acceptance
  • Proof of identity
  • Proof of financial support
  • Letter of explanation
  • Visa fee to be payable by Bank draft
  • Copies of Academic Mark sheets and Certificates
  • Work Experience certificates, if applicable
  • English proficiency examination (IELTS)

Since Canada speaks English, it is not surprising that they require their applicants to take the IELTS or the International English Language Testing System examination. Applicants need to take the Academic Module and get an overall band score of 6 with no less than 6.5 on the four subtests. To be able to get this required score, here are some easy and effective ways to train yourself for the IELTS. For more information about the IELTS score, please visit this page.

1. Make each day a day for learning English. Find situations where you can speak the language. It will help you build confidence and practice speaking at the same time.

2. Read magazines and newspaper. Be familiar with more words to help you choose better vocabulary in speaking and writing. Further, a good vocabulary bank makes it easier to understand passages in the exam.

3. Listen to news online. Practice speaking like news anchors emphasizing on the stress and pronunciation.

4. Download listening audios in different English accents. The test uses a variety of this so you have to get ready for that.

5. Watch English movies. Learning does not have to be always from books; movies teach expressions and it is a good practice for listening too.

6. Practice writing essays. Choose simple topics at first until you can write longer and more complicated ones.

7. Since it is the Academic module, study graphs, diagrams and tables. These are topics to be used in the writing task.

8. Review your grammar lessons. Understand sentence construction and the proper usage of punctuations.

9. Do mock exams to record your progress with your course.

10. Find a teacher to help you build skills for the IELTS. Better yet, enrol in IELTS review centers before taking the real IELTS exam.

Students should not panic for the IELTS test. Preparation is needed as well as exposure to the right review materials where IELTS review centers have it all.

1. Getting a lot of training here in the Philippines is very important. Companies abroad look for individuals that are already equipped with the right knowledge and skills in the said skill. The Philippine government has made programs which are offered by TESDA or the Technical Education and Skills Development Agency. All candidates need to comply with the requirements to avail the said training.

2. It is an advantage if an applicant already has an experience in butchery. Some companies in New Zealand may require at least 3 years of experience while some do not. Candidates should be able to know the minimum experience requirements for the job.

3. A butcher should be in good health. Health certifications are needed as part of the requirement. Being a butcher is not an easy job. You will need to be on your feet most of the day. This is a test of one’s stamina and energy to do the job. In addition, for a butcher to work effectively, he or she needs to have good eyesight to ensure safety within the work area.

4. As a butcher to be working in an English speaking country, one must undergo an English proficiency examination. The IELTS or the International English Language Testing System examination is a requirement for butchers. They need to get an overall score of 5 in the examination to be able to lodge their applications. Failure to do so means a halt in their processing.

Moreover, there is a huge importance in getting an IELTS score of 5 as some butchery training programs are given for free if their applicant already got a 5. This exam is very important as companies need to be sure that their hires are going to be productive at work and will be able to communicate with other workers who are English speakers.

Thus, it is important for Filipino butchers to take IELTS review courses to pass the IELTS examination.

How to Pass the NPTE in One Shot?

As a working professional, we all want the best in our careers. There are a lot of great opportunities here in the Philippines; however, let us admit the fact that working overseas offers a better salary and a better life for everyone. This is one reason why a lot of Filipino physical therapists are reviewing for the NPTE or the National Physical Therapist Examination. What is the NPTE?
The NPTE is a licensure examination taken by Filipino physical therapists who want to practice their profession in the United States of America. With this examination, Filipino physical therapist can work and get a lot of benefits from the institutions they are working for. Taking the NPTE can really be costly as Filipinos need to fly overseas to be able to take the examination. Hence, there is a big pressure on passing the exam only in one sitting. The question now is: how can a Filipino physical therapist pass the NPTE in one shot?

Here are some ways on passing the NPTE with success:

1. Plan a course of study months before the examination. This will give you a lot of time to gather review materials you need. Moreover, research on some books that will help in covering topics for the NPTE.

2. Know the aspects or categories in physical therapy that are usually included in the examination. Have a checklist and try to arrange them according to how well you are familiar with these topics.

3. Prioritize subjects to be studied. Start with those that are difficult for you to understand. This will give you more time to review on the topics and be enlightened on the discussions.

4. Do not force yourself to memorize all facts in just a day. Learning takes time so review on these daily.

5. Read the latest cases on your field. Be familiar with new diagnoses that might be a part of your examination.

6. Keep track of your progress. Check on the things you have already covered for two weeks and review on them. This will help you remember all the stuff you have been feeding your brain.

7. Take practice tests weekly. This will gauge the improvement on your studies.

8. Have a study group with fellow physical therapists. It is best to learn more about your field with fellow physical therapists.

9. Give your brain a time to rest after long hours of review.

10. If you have a difficult time organizing your time, enroll in NPTE review centers. They have scheduled classes and practice tests to monitor your learning once you are in the program.

Passing the NPTE is possible with the right amount of knowledge, skill and practice. Start reviewing as early as today and be surprised of the advantages this can give you on your exam day.
