The United Kingdom – a country rich in culture and history. Almost everybody have these dreams in visiting the United Kingdom and most of these people are students who wish to study in world-renowned universities and colleges in the UK. The experience in walking down hallways and corridors and sitting in rooms getting quality education and training are priceless. Filipino students are very eager to be in the UK and study. However, there are some things that Filipino students should consider when planning to study in the UK.

Generally, if a person is not a citizen of the European Union like Filipinos, a UK student visa is needed. There are different kinds of visa that depends on the applicant’s age, the length of the course, and the academic institution where the person will study.  Here is some information that will guide students on their visa applications.

•    Visa Types

Currently, there are two kinds of UK visa offered to non-European residents: Student Visitor Visa (SVV) and Tier 4 Student Visa. An SVV is for short academic courses and for most English courses. Longer academic courses need a Tier 4 Visa. Tier 4 Visa is divided into two different categories – the Tier 4 General and the Tier 4 Child. The UK PBS (points based system) is the one responsible for issuing these visas.

•    Obtaining Tier 4 Visas

If a student is applying for a Tier 4 Visa, he or she should present a CAS or Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies from the academic institution he or she is enrolling. CAS can only be acquired if a deposit has been done in the institution. Moreover, a student should prove that he or she have the funds to pay for his or her studies. A student should be ready to present bank statements and sponsorships. There is an automatic rejection for applicants who are not able to provide these documents.

•    Pass an approved English language test

Before applying for a student visa, one should pass an English proficiency examination. An English Language test is needed and even mandatory if a student studies overseas. It is very important especially if a student is studying at a degree level or above programs.

Even though Filipinos are already good at the English language, taking the test is essential. The IELTS or the International English Language Testing System test is what students need for their application. What is best is to be enrolled in IELTS review centers to attain skills and strategies for the examination. Additionally, being in an IELTS review centers gives the student an opportunity to know more about visa application in the UK.
