The US H1B visa is a non-immigrant visa that gives US companies the opportunity to hire foreign workers in specialty occupations that require theoretical or technical expertise in specialized fields like in engineering and science. Once hired, foreign workers can work for up to six years in the US.
This type of visa is subjected to annual numerical limits. Meaning to say, there are only a specific number of applicants that are allowed to apply yearly. The US H1B visa is for specialty positions. Hence, applicants must meet one of the following criteria to qualify.
· Completed a US bachelor’s degree or higher degree required by the specific specialty occupation from an accredited college or university
· Hold a foreign degree that is equivalent to a US bachelor’s or higher degree in the specialty occupation
· Hold a license that allows the bearer to fully practice the specialty occupation
· Have the education, training or experience the specialty needs
An interview is done in the process of the application. Here are some questions usually asked in the interview:
· What is the purpose of your trip to the US?
· Why do you want to work in the United States?
· Do you plan to travel while you are living in the US?
· What company will you work for in the US?
· How did you find out about your H-1B sponsor employer?
· What do you expect to do in your new job?
· Who will be your supervisor at your sponsoring employer?
· What kind of projects does your employer works on?
· Do you have any employer documents?
· Do you have plans to come back to your home country?
English proficiency scores such as the IELTS or the International English Language Testing System examination is usually not required in applying for the visa. IELTS is required by the employers. Applicants must know information on what specific scores they need to have from their employers.
If you wish to apply for this visa, prepare all the necessary documents beforehand. The application may take a lot of time, money, and patience. All the applicants need is to be patient in processing their visa.
