preserve and enhance your memory.
- Smoking Using cancer sticks not only damages your health, it also degrades your ability to recall information. Smoking intervenes with your brain’s blood supply, which consequently affects the areas responsible for analyzing, transmitting, and retaining information.
- Drinking Drowning your troubles in alcohol solves nothing. In fact, it adds more to your problems. Heavy drinking contributes to brain damage and elevates the risk of developing memory problems. Also, avoid drinking the night before your IELTS review class. Studies show that even if your alcohol level returns to normal the following day after a night of heavy drinking, there is a chance that you will still experience impaired retention and delayed recognition. These disrupt the areas in your brain that are responsible for learning, remembering, and managing your emotions and stress levels. Don’t let your mobile phone subtly hinder your IELTS review.
- Staying up late People have different reasons for staying up late. Some people burn the midnight oil to cram for their upcoming exams while others do so to binge-watch their current series addiction. No matter the reason, its impact on your memory is the same. Sleep deprivation hinders your brain’s ability to store information to your long-term memory. Memory consolidation occurs during deep sleep, which you will have a lot of trouble reaching if you are always burning the midnight oil.
- Using your digital device before bed A study shows that spending at least two hours using your tablet before sleeping drastically diminishes your body’s melatonin level—our natural sleep hormone—increasing chances of sleep deprivation, which, as mentioned before, affects the consolidation of memories.
- Having a fatty or sugary diet Do you want to preserve your ability to recall information? Curb your cravings for fatty and sugary foods! Studies suggest that excessive intake of these kinds of food increases the risk of you experiencing brain fog. Brain fog can strike anytime, leaving individuals in a sudden state of mental disorientation. It also increases memory lapses.
Having a fatty or sugary diet also increases the risk of developing anxiety and
depression. So, refrain from stopping by at your favorite fast food joints after your
classes in the IELTS review center in Makati.
