As a
country-specific language exam, information about the IELTS Life Skills test,
while generally available, are not as commonplace as those of the IELTS
Academic and General Training tests. Still, if you are planning to take this IELTS for UKVI exam, it’s crucial that you know its basics.
Enrolling in an
IELTS review center is one of the best ways to
learn more about test’s essentials. Instructors provide in-depth lectures about
the exam’s structures, test-types, and more. Check out the following fast facts
about the IELTS Life Skills exam to learn its basics.
1.
Three IELTS Test Partners facilitate the IELTS Life Skills
exam
They are the International
Development Program (IDP): IELTS Australia, the British Council, and the Cambridge
English Language Assessment. Although their test dates often coincide with each
other, each test partner sets its own exam schedule and venue.
2. Only the listening and
speaking skills are assessed
Unlike in the IELTS Academic
and General Training exams, the IELTS Life Skills test does not test all four
of linguistic abilities (i.e., listening, reading, writing, and speaking). It
only assesses the examinee’s listening and speaking skills to meet certain immigration
requirements.
3. Examinees can take the
exam in three levels: A1, A2, and B1.
Each level is developed
specifically to fulfill the requirements of certain visa categories set by the
UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI). Here’s a run-through of each level.
·
Level A1 is for applicants of the “family of a
settled person” visa. Examinees are required to complete the test in 18
minutes.
·
Level A2 is for applicants of the “family of a
settled person” extension visa. Only people who are staying in the UK can take
this test. Examinees are required to complete the test in 20 minutes.
·
Level A3 is for applicants of the “indefinite
leave to remain or citizenship” visa. Examinees are required to complete the
test in 22 minutes.
If you are attending a training
facility, like the IELTS review center in Davao,
let your instructor know which level you are taking.
4. The exam is taken with
a test facilitator and another test taker
Don’t worry; the performance
of the other examinee will not affect your results.
5. Test takers cannot take
a break during the exam session
Examinees are required to
finish the test in one sitting.
6. Your performance is
assessed based on how well you communicated throughout the session
The certified IELTS test
facilitator will evaluate your performance based on how well you…
·
…obtained
information;
·
…expressed
information;
·
…responded;
and
·
…participated
in the discussion.

your performance. The form will only tell you if you passed or failed the exam.
